Impressions OLMA: We were "on a visit"

Over 40,000 people experienced the diversity of the canton of St.Gallen at the OLMA parade - more than ever before and the Sarganserland-Werdenberg region was right in the middle of it all: as part of the guest canton, we were able to take part in the traditional parade and participate in the special exhibition. Videos and photos provide a lively insight.

All green like the coat of arms, oversized and lively: The living room of the canton and the political communes as well as the local communes in the special show attracted many guests throughout OLMA. They played games at the green tables, chatted at the gourmet bar, romped together on the children's tower, took a break from the hustle and bustle of the fair on the green sofas, held discussions under the lime tree and here and there you saw someone taking a nap or working in their "home office".

Almost all the furniture gets a "new look"

Anyone who stepped into the living room experienced exactly that: a place where you feel "on a visit". The special exhibition focused on people and dialog. This provided a topic of conversation: some were pleased that the show was a contrast to the noisy everyday life at the trade fair and offered space for everyone. Others were disappointed that the presentation was not more promotional and bold.

Visitors were very positive about the sustainability of the exhibition. Almost all of the furniture on display was given a new "Dihei". Guests were able to reserve these online and collect them after OLMA. This means that a large proportion of the inventory from the special show can be recycled. The animal show also attracted a great deal of interest. Farmers from all over the canton presented their stables, allowing guests to interact directly with them.

Day of the host canton as a highlight

More than 40,000 spectators gathered along the streets of St.Gallen's city center on the Day of the Guest Canton. There were more than ever before! The 52 groups from all over the canton presented their peculiarities and traditions and showed how diverse society and culture are in the canton of St.Gallen. Over 1,600 people from the communities took part in the parade and generously distributed delicacies and drinks from their regions.

Unfortunately, the large number of people and trucks meant that the parade was delayed. However, thanks to the beautiful autumn weather, the many harmonious motifs and the many delicacies distributed, the delay was bearable for many. Around 12,000 people took advantage of the free public transport ticket.

Sarganserland and Werdenberg at the parade

The Sarganserland-Werdenberg region had the pleasure of leading the traditional OLMA parade. We transported our landmarks to St.Gallen with great enthusiasm and attention to detail. The parade motifs no. 1 to 8 were created in collaboration with various committed Sarganserland and Werdenberg organizations and associations:

  • WerdenbergCastle and Town on Wheels
  • Wine and agriculture with the Mels winegrowers' association and the unique Mels alpine descent
  • Living customs with various Sarganserland carnival associations and Silvesterchläuse Oberschan
  • Oversized sculptures by Bad RagARTz
  • Parade by the Konkordia Mels music society
  • Tradition and modernity with Türgga Usschelleta (freeing corn cobs from leaves) and performance by Werdenberg music school
  • Quinten lives and Walensee shipping with Switzerland's first commercially used hydrogen shuttle.

The canton and the regions would like to thank all those involved. Without the support of the thousands of volunteers, the guest appearance could not have been successfully realized in such a short time. The canton of St.Gallen stepped in as guest canton after the canton of Ticino canceled at short notice. Under the motto "Uf Bsuech dihei", the entire population was invited to the canton's living room at OLMA from October 10 to 20.

On the occasion of OLMA, we are giving away 20 vouchers to bring you closer to our region. Until Sunday, November 4, you have the opportunity to win one of 20 experience vouchers.
