Let the train (and the bus) take you around

We’ll keep you moving. Our municipalities are connected to their surrounding valleys and nearby regions via a comprehensive bus network. The rail hubs at Sargans and Buchs can be easily reached by public transport from anywhere in the region, and we ensure passengers are served at all times, with busy routes running up to every half an hour.

The hourly Interregio IR13 (Chur–Sargans–Buchs–St. Gallen–Zurich) and St. Gallen’s S4 circular suburban train route run between St. Gallen and Sargans every 30 minutes, stopping in various places along the way.

From Sargans, you can access a number of long-distance routes, including direct connections to Zurich, Basel, Graz, Frankfurt am Main/Hamburg, as well as two-hourly Railjet trains to Vienna/Budapest via Buchs and Feldkirch. The RegioExpress between Zurich and Chur stops in Walenstadt, Sargans and Bad Ragaz.

Small stations, big adventures: local trains to transport hub

The S4 runs every hour towards Ziegelbrücke/St. Gallen or Sargans, serving Salez, Sevelen, Mels, Flums, Walenstadt, Mols, Unterterzen and Murg. From Sargans, the S12 provides a half-hourly connection to/from Bad Ragaz, Landquart and Chur.

Bus connections from the Buchs train station combine with the half-hourly rail services in all directions from Sargans to serve every municipality in the region. Routes run towards Rheintal, Toggenburg, Liechtenstein and Feldkirch, as well as to the Glarnerland.

And when the time comes to get away from it all, tourist attractions like Flumserberg, Pizol, Wildhaus or the Voralpsee at Grabserberg are also well served by public transport. The Flumsberg tourist area is connected with the Unterterzen train station by a gondola, which runs via Oberterzen to Tannenboden.

To Liechtenstein by public transport

Do you work in Liechtenstein? The Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) route between Buchs and Feldkirch serve multiple destinations in Liechtenstein several times a day, including the premises of major employers. Moreover, Liechtenstein’s planned suburban train network is designed to improve links between the principality and the St.Gallen suburban train and Vorarlberg suburban train even further, making switching between them easier than it has ever been.
